  • Do I need a special license to sign up to the Easy IP NGA offering?
  • To sign up to the offering, you need to be a company holding a general authorisation for electronic communications networks and services pursuant to Article 25 of Italian Legislative Decree no. 259 of 1 August 2003, as last amended by Italian Legislative Decree no. 70 of 28 May 2012.

  • What annual volume must the Operator guarantee to obtain access to the offering?
  • There are no minimum volumes.

  • What kind of technical infrastructure does the Operator need to create for visibility between proxies and servers?
  • TIM's Radius proxies can be accessed reached from the Internet, so any IP access infrastructure with public (static) addressing can be used to enable visibility between Radius devices.

  • What is a naked line?
  • 'Naked line' means a 'naked' copper access line in a PSTN/WLR telephony service. This line is dedicated exclusively to the FTTCab data service.

  • Does the monthly fee for the Easy IP NGA FTTCab line include the naked line?
  • The Easy IP NGA FTTCab monthly fee already includes the naked line.

  • Can I customise the bandwidth?
  • You cannot customise the bandwidth. 

  • How can I migrate accesses currently resident in another Operator?
  • The change from one Operator to another may take place through a migration order (or 274 activation) in accordance with the procedures set out in Resolution 611/13/CONS.

    If the end customer doesn't change his/her access Operator, but two Operators negotiate a resale agreement, you can migrate accesses resident in another Operator through a transfer agreement.

  • How can I migrate the current Easy IP ADSL consistency to Easy IP NGA?
  • You can make the transition from Easy IP ADSL to Easy IP NGA by migration order (OLO Donating = OLO Recipient)

  • In the event of migration from Easy IP ADSL to Easy IP NGA can I keep the same static IP addresses?
  • In the event of migration from an Easy IP ADSL access using static IPs to Easy IP NGA (even on the same Operator) you cannot keep the same static IPs already in use, and new ones must be assigned.

  • In the event of migration from an existing Easy IP NGA service (Donating access) to a different Operator, can I keep the same static IP addresses?
  • In the event  of migration due to change of Operator to an Easy IP NGA service already using a static IP address, you cannot keep the same static IPs already in use, and new ones must be assigned.

  • In the event of migration, how can Donating provide the Session Code Validation in Phase 3 to the Recipient?
  • Donating can send the Session Code Validation by means of XML record layout or by uploading the xml file to GUI NOW in the FILE and NOTIFICATIONS/UPLOAD FILE ORDERS AND REQUESTS section. The Upload feature is available if the Operator is enabled on the SFTP server. 

  • How can I request return of the Easy IP ADSL deactivation fee?
  • Operators who have managed the transition from Easy IP ADSL to Easy IP NGA FTTCab through a sequence of Easy IP NGA FTTCab activation orders and the subsequent termination of Easy IP ADSL (at the same end customer office) may request the return of the Easy IP ADSL deactivation fee by submitting a single request for all the sites concerned. Return is accepted for Easy IP ADSL deactivation orders received by 1 March 2019 (the DRO - Date of Receipt of Order - shall prevail). Operators may send the appropriate .xls file to their Account, available on the Wholesale Portal in the Reserved Area (Home>Documentation>Services>Bitstream NGA and VULA: Request form for cancellation of Easy IP ADSL deactivation fee, click here). The file must be completed with all the necessary information (OAO Order Code for Easy IP ADSL deactivation; OAO order code Easy IP NGA FFTCab activation order; address of end customer's sites).

  • What are the costs of Operator-Operator migrations?
  • With access Operator change operations, the recipient Operator is charged the fees defined in the Bitstream NGA and VULA Reference Offer ('Qualification' and 'Test 2' services are always present).

  • How many days does it take for an order to be processed after the activation request?
  • The new activation order is completed within 20 days. In the event of migration, the order is carried out at EDD (Expected Delivery Date) with a minimum EDD of five working days from the Order Receipt Date (ORD).

  • How many hours does it take for a fault to be repaired after it is reported?
  • Restoration of service is guaranteed within 32 hours.

  • Can a TIM Wholesale VOIP service be carried over an Easy IP NGA connection?
  • The TIM Wholesale VOIP service can be carried over an Easy IP NGA connection, bearing in mind that this VOIP service is provided according to the technical and commercial conditions described in the relevant 'VOIP Hosting with TIM Hosting' contract.

  • What are the prices of the Easy IP NGA service?
  • Prices are available on request by contacting your sales representative (Wholesale Account Manager).

  • Does the service request for a specific and separate agreement ?
  • A specific agreement must be signed, followed by the loading on NOW of the new agreement that enables orders to be entered.

  • Once the agreement has been signed, can I immediately place orders on NOW?
  • Dialogue between TIM proxy and the Operator's Radius must be prepared in advance. A specific module (Welcome KIT Easy IP NGA interconnection module) is provided through which the Operator indicates the data necessary for the configuration (Radius IP, name proposed for the realm, option requested for the configuration of the DNS, reference to contact for technical tests, etc.). The form must be completed when the agreement is defined. The Account Manager is responsible for activating the internal functions of Telecom Italia, which contacts the Operator to finalise the configuration and carry out the testing. In this phase, TIM provides the Operator with the IP addresses of its Radius proxies so they can be configured on its own Radius servers. Note that for the purposes of AAA (Authentication, Authorisation, and Accounting), the Operator's Radius does not need to establish any connection with the TIM network's BNASs which, as infrastructure elements, cannot be reached outside the TIM network and are not pingable.

  • What kind of technical infrastructure does the Operator have to create to ensure visibility between proxy and server and between the client device and the TIM network?
  • Telecom Italia's Radius proxies can be accessed from the Internet; therefore any IP access infrastructure with public addressing (static IPv4) can be used to enable visibility between Radius devices. In particular, the Operator's Radius must support RFCs 2865/2866 The PAP (RFC 1334) authentication protocol is used between the customer's End-User device and the TIM network.

  • How do I send orders to activate Easy IP NGA lines?
  • Orders to activate the Easy IP NGA lines can be sent, after signing the agreement and after testing the Radius configuration, by accessing the protected area of the TIM Wholesale portal both in single order mode (from the GUI interface) and in bulk mode (sending multiple orders via file). Order entry is available from New Delivery Chain (NCD/NOW).

  • What happens if the activation of an Easy IP NGA line is requested without first having completed the configuration/testing of the Radius dialogue?
  • If you place an order for an Easy IP NGA line before completing the Radius test, the line is activated but cannot be fully usable for the service because the Authorisation and Authentication phase cannot be completed. The Internet cannot be accessed.

  • How can I request NOW to be enabled so I can enter orders for the new service?
  • NOW is enabled by default for Operators who have signed contracts that can be managed on NOW. You can check this by accessing the Wholesale portal in the Reserved Area under Contracts and Provisioning > Order and Consistency Management > NOW and verifying the presence of the relative link. 

  • Which is the Customer Care number?
  • The Customer Care number is: 800 54 54 10 (Mon-Fri: 8.30-1 pm and 2-8 pm) or 800 54 54 12 (Saturday: 8:30-1 pm and 2-4:30 pm holidays excluded).

    Freephone numbers can only be used if it is impossible to open the SD ticket from the portal.

  • Is it possible to provide 'Evolution of Delivery' services?
  • Yes, the 'SMS di Cortesia', 'Saturday', 'Sunday', 'Info-Care', 'Rendezvous' and ‘Four App’ services are also available for the Easy IP NGA service.  

  • Can I use the same Radius server used for the Easy IP ADSL service and can I use the same REALMs?
  • Where the Operator already has an Easy IP ADSL Special Profile contract, it may request use of the same REALMs already in use for the above service.

  • Is it possible to provide the service using static IP addresses assigned to the Operator?
  • The Easy IP NGA service uses the Telecom Italia network for all components (access, transport, Internet connectivity except for the AAA Radius proxy which is owned by Operator). Therefore, it is not possible for the Telecom Italia network to route IP addresses assigned to other Operators.

  • In the case of static IP address assignment, what configuration should be adopted on the Radius and what is the difference between the Framed-IP-Netmask parameter and the Subnet Mask?
  • The configurations are defined in the contract. In particular, note that the Framed-IP-Netmask field must always be configured to the value 255.255.255.255. This field has no relevance to the SUBNET_MASK_NET_LAN field (provided to the Operator in the order completion notifications): The SUBNET_MASK_NET_LAN field identifies the size of the subnet netmask of IP4 addresses assigned for use on the LAN at the customer's premises and, under CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) notation, it is equal to 255.255.255.248 (in the case of assignment of 8 IP LANs) and 255.255.255.240 (in the case of assignment of 16 IP LANs). The Framed-IP-Netmask field identifies the netmask associated with the individual IP address assigned to the end customer's router on the geographical connectivity stretch (Framed-IP Address field indicated in the Radius configurations reported in the contract or IP_ADDRESS_NET field present in the order fulfilment notifications) and as a single IP it is always equal to 255.255.255.255

  • If the assigned static IP address is on black list/block list how can delisting be requested? Can I request the configuration of the PTR (Pattern Record) on an assigned static IP address?
  • Where the operator's end customer uses the assigned static public IP to ensure the reachability of a mail server at the location at which the Easy IP NGA service is provided - and if the IP address is on the black list/ block list - the operator can open an assurance Trouble Ticket (TT) (support request) to request the delisting of the IP through the configuration of the PTR (Pattern Record). The request is handled provided that the host name connected to the mail server is associated with a domain with an MX record registered in the name of the end user or the operator. The same method can be used to request the configuration of the PTR (Pattern Record) to associate a static IP with a specific mail server that is in use at the end customer's site.     If the end customer uses an external SMTP, the provider may decide to inhibit the service because the IP is on a PBL List ('Policy Block List'), e.g. Spamhaus. In these cases, as Spamhaus itself describes in its FAQ (Enabling SMTP Authentication), the problem is due to configuration errors in the mail program used by the end customer.

  • How often are Interim accounting packets sent by the TIM Radius proxy?
  • Interim accounting packets are sent every 12 hours from the start of accounting in each session. This time interval is defined by TIM using its optimisation criteria; therefore TIM reserves the right to modify the parameter in light of new needs arising in the future

  • What is the maximum duration of a session?
  • There is no maximum session duration. The session remains active even in the absence of transmitted traffic. The stop accounting notice is sent by the Proxy to the Operator's Radius only when the modem at the end customer location ends the session.

  • What are the timeouts that TIM applies in the conversation between Proxy and Radius?
  • If the Radius does not receive a response, the Proxy waits three seconds, and then interprets this failure as a fault of the Operator's Radius and consequently rejects the session (notifying the BNAS). The timeout is applied both during authentication and accounting.

  • If a dynamic IP has been assigned, can the Radius know the specific IP address used at the end customer's location?
  • The IP address used for both static and dynamic IP assignment is indicated in the accounting packages (start, interim, stop).

  • How do I configure my DNS?
  • The service provides three possible operating modes: 

    1. The Operator provides its DNS directly in response to the authentication request by populating the appropriate Radius attributes (Ascend-client-primary-dns; Ascend-client-secondary-dns). If the Operator does not populate the fields, no alternative DNS is 'passed' by the TIM Proxy for End User access and navigation is only possible by direct configuration on the access router at the End User's premises;
    2. Telecom Italia sets the TIM DNS by default in the reply message to the authentication request. If the Operator intends to use Telecom Italia's DNS server, Telecom Italia reserves the right to provide the service in best effort mode;
    3. Telecom Italia sets the Operator's DNS by default in the reply message to the authentication request. 

    The configurations are either-or, i.e. mutually exclusive, and refer to all Operator connections using the same REALM. Therefore, if the Operator uses both the Easy IP ADSL Special Profile service and the Easy IP NGA service on the same REALM, the chosen rule applies to all connections authenticated over the aforementioned REALM.

     

  • How can I request the DNS configuration of interest?
  • The Operator can indicate the mode of interest when subscribing to the service through the Welcome KIT Easy IP NGA interconnection module. The request must be specified for each REALM in use.

    In particular, if the Operator intends to ask TIM for the default setting of its DNS, it must specify the relative IP addresses for each REALM in use.

    If, at a later time, the Operator wishes to modify its choice, it may give prior notice to its Account, which engages the operational functions to change the configuration.

  • Are there any indications regarding the configuration of the NTP server on the modem?
  • The operator can use its own or third-party NTP servers. If TIM's NTP servers are used, it is important to note that they can ONLY be reached from TIM's DNS.

  • What is the size of the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) allowed for the service?
  • Maximum packet size in bytes is 1492 bytes (IP level), 1500 bytes (including PPP/PPPoE overhead).

  • Is it possible to provide the Easy IP NGA service in dynamic mode?
  • The dynamic access (so-called Flexible) mode is not available on Easy IP NGA.

  • How can the Operator temporarily block the service for its end users (e.g. in case of default) without having to resort to termination of access?
  • The Operator is responsible for disabling the end user's service and can intervene on its own Radius at any time by rejecting authentication requests sent by the TIM Proxy Radius (for the specific username it intends to block). It is neither envisaged nor is it possible for Telecom Italia's NAS to prevent access to the service, since the NAS is a network device that cannot be pinged or accessed from the outside.

  • Which is the specific Class Of Service (CoS) used for traffic transport and which are the quality parameters ?
  • Traffic is transported with CoS 0 and with the same quality parameters applied for Bitstream NGA accesses (see Reference Offer, click here, in the paragraph "Traffic management mode - Classes of Service (CoS)).

  • How do I become an Operator/ISP?
  • In order to become an Operator, an entity belonging to the EU or to a country that applies, in the field of telecommunications, conditions of full reciprocity, must be regulated as follows: Article 24 Italian Legislative Decree 01/08/2003 no. 259 General authorisation for electronic communications networks and services.

    The company shall submit a declaration to the Ministry made by the natural person or the legal representative of the legal person, or by persons delegated by them, containing the intention to start providing electronic communications networks or services, together with the information strictly necessary to enable the Ministry to keep an updated list of providers of electronic communications networks and services, to be published in its Official Bulletin and on the website. This declaration shall constitute a declaration of commencement of activity and shall follow the template set out in Annex 9. The company is entitled to start activities as soon as the declaration has been filed and in compliance with the provisions on rights of use laid down in Articles 27, 28 and 29. The Ministry, within and no later than 60 days from the submission of the declaration, shall automatically verify the existence of the conditions and requirements to be met and shall, if necessary, issue a reasoned decision, communicated to the interested parties within the same period, prohibiting the continuation of the activity. Companies holding an authorisation must be enrolled in the Register of Communication Operators referred to in Article 1 of Law No 249 of 31 July 1997.

    The above is subject to the payment of administrative fees and contributions provided for in Articles 34 and 35 of the decree and with respect for the provisions of Article 28 of the same document.
