Who the service is intended for
Wholesale GigaWave is a premium connectivity service aimed at Operators who want to
with speeds greater than or equal to 1 Gbit/s with dedicated bandwidth.
Description of the service
The Service consists in the rental to the Customer of transmission connections, with 1GE or 10GE interface. An S-VLAN (Service VLAN) is configured for each GigaWave connection, with speeds of up to 10 Gbits/s.
Transport is based on the DWDM technology of the TIM’s transmission network and can use both the National Transport Network and the Regional Transport Networks. Dedicated fibre-optic infrastructures are used to reach the end customer's premise, or the location of the Operator not co-located with a DWDM node. If, on the other hand, the Operator's location is in a TIM exchange that is already the DWDM node location, local fibre-optic connections will be used. Delivery to both endpoints is made using L2 Ethernet Switches. A POP type endpoint can be co-located in a TIM’s exchange, or it can be placed in an external location.
GigaWave connections can be point-to-point or point-to-multipoint.
A. Point-to-point: in both endpoints the fibre-optic section between the L2 Switch terminal and the TIM DWDM node is dedicated to the connection. Realisation can be optimised with the delivery of multiple circuits to the same endpoint using a single delivery device L2 Switch (hub-and-spoke architecture). The traffic delivery method in both endpoints is of the UNI type: the L2 Switch boundary equipment delivers traffic to the customer with C-VLAN tags by removing S-VLAN tags. Only one S-VLAN can be delivered to each port and therefore only one GigaWave connection.
B. Point-to-multipoint: involves the aggregation of multiple 1GE flows on a single fibre pair at the DWDM connection exchange of one of the endpoints and a single delivery device Switch L2 at this endpoint (POP). The band of each individual connection remains dedicated. The L2 delivery switch at the POP and any fibre-optic section to reach the external POP are the service component named KIT. The delivery method for traffic to the end user's premises is of the UNI type; the delivery method to POP can be UNI* or NNI.
In the case of UNI delivery, the L2 Switch boundary equipment delivers the traffic to the customer with C-VLAN tag removing S-VLAN tag. Only one S-VLAN can be delivered to each port.
In the case of NNI delivery, the L2 Switch boundary equipment delivers both S-VLAN tag and C-VLAN tagto the customer. Several S-VLANs and thus several GigaWave circuits can be delivered on the same port of the GigaWave KIT.
Single-route and protected profiles are available
* KIT UNI will be available from March 2020
Supply and activation times
In the request for supply, the Operator notifies to TIM Wholesale the sites to connect, the bandwidth, the interface (optical/electrical), the need for protection and any particular requirements for redundancy. In each commercial offer TIM will indicate the maximum delivery times for each connection e/o KIT specified in the Offer.
Notifications of faults/performance deterioration/requests for support can be sent directly by the Operator through the Wholesale Portal which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Guaranteed times for restoration of service in the event of faults ("Non-functioning" status) are shown in the Table:
Inside the Reserved Area - Assurance in the Data Services area, the Operator will be able to find an appropriate link.
Should the Operator wish for a connection to be delivered to its POP at a TIM exchange, the Operator must have signed a Co-location or Commercial Housing contract. In the case of activation of a point-to-multipoint connection, the Operator must first acquire the dedicated GigaWave Kit accessory service.
The fee for the Wholesale GigaWave circuit o KIT Gigawave is made up of:
The positioning of the two sites to be connected defines the circuit's e/o KIT’s system chain, which determines its characteristics and the cost.
