Who can use the service?
The service is for Operators who wish to directly connect their sites and/or customer's sites with very high capacity by means of a service with exclusive use of a dedicated bandwidth.
The available speeds are 1.25 Gbit/sec, 2.5 Gbit/sec, 10 Gbit/sec, 100 Gbit/sec.
Description of the service
Giganet is a dedicated optic fibre connectivity service offering very high performances (transparency, dedicated bandwidth, fixed latency...) based on xWDM technology for long-distance and metropolitan connections with speeds ranging from 1,25 Gbit/s to 100Gbit/sec. The service offers connections between two Endpoints (A and Z) through the exposure of standard interfaces. If necessary to complete the connections, dedicated DWDM systems (extensions) may be built to extend TIM’s transport network to the customer sites.
Giganet connections are tipically used in the creation of backbones or backhauling networks and can be used as basic connectivity for other types of services (e.g. IPG@te, Iplook, IPbig).
Connections may be requested in three different modes: one way/ two way diversified unprotected (with two working channel)/ protected 1+1 diversified (with one working channel and one backup channel).
Different options are provided to meet the different customer requirements (e.g. AC power supply for devices at the customer’s sites, or various degrees of redundancy: multiple device on customer site, dual homing, dual drop, etc.) , and each connection is the result of an ad hoc project and feasibility study.
The basic infrastructure is the TIM transport network, which is hierarchically structured with a National Transport network and different Metro/Regional Transport networks to increase the geographical coverage of the service.
Supply and activation time
The Giganet Service is generally available according to the availability of TIM resources and in relation to the geographical coverage of the service. In their initial request Operators must set the two endpoint of connection, the band speeds, and the specific standard interface required, as well as any additional performances and particular redundancy and/or route diversification requirements.
The implementation times depend on the particular project.
A self-ticketing system is provided for reporting malfunctions. This system is accessible in the Service & Project Management section of their own private area of the TIM Retail Internet Portal. Operators receive information on the resolution of malfunctions through the same channel of communication.
No other services must be requested to enable the Operators in using Giganet services.
The charges and recurring fees for the Giganet service are set forth in the Commercial Offer.
