Who can use the service?
The “Interconnection Flows” service is for Operators who intend to request TIM to create a physical interconnect network between the Operator's network equipment and the TIM network nodes used for delivery of the regulated wholesale services (Distribution Points, hereafter DPs).
Description of the service
An Interconnection Flow is a circuit between an Operator's node (POP), which may be co-located at a TIM exchange, and a TIM DP for regulated wholesale services. This circuit is used to deliver one or more TIM wholesale service to the Operator's network.
The DP nodes are specific for each service and in particular the following types are provided:
Each TIM package includes a list of the related available DPs.
Interconnection Flows are consequently services provided as accessories to wholesale services and, therefore, are an infrastructure that must be prepared in advance of the request for wholesale services that the Operator intends to collect at the DP concerned.
Types of Interconnection Flows
Interconnect Flows may be either Regional or Local depending on the level of the network to which the Delivery Point (DP) belongs.
This category is used when interconnection to a TIM regional DP is requested and the Operator's node and the TIM DP belong to the same Regional Transmission Area (BTR).
This category is used when interconnection to a TIM local DP is requested and the Operator's node and the TIM DP belong to the same local network.
Local Interconnection Flows are available both by PDH/SDH technology, at speeds of 2 Mbit/s, 34 Mbit/s, 155 Mbit/s, 622 Mbit/s and 2.5 Gbit/s and by Ethernet technology over SDH, at speeds of 10 Mbit/s, 20 Mbit/s, 30 Mbit/s, 48 Mbit/s, 96 Mbit/s and 150 Mbit/s.
A list of TIM facilities hosting regional type transmission nodes is attached to the Reference Offer related to “Dedicated Capacity Transmission Services” in the website italian section: "I Nostri Servizi" / “Accesso” / “Flussi di Interconnessione” / “Offerte”. For all types of TIM wholesale services, the DPs at these facilities are all of the "Regional" type. DPs located in facilities other than those housing regional transmission nodes are of the "Local" type.
Interconnection Flows equipment chain
The equipment chain comprises:
Length of interconnection flows
The length of an Interconnection Flows is equal to the distance, as the crow flies, between the TIM PCP cabinet serving the Operator's PoP and the DP for the wholesale service, rounded off to the closest whole figure.
Method of Supply and Request
Interconnection Flows must be requested together with at least one interface related to a regulated service (e.g. switching capability, ATM port, Terminating, etc.). There are two ways of using Interconnect Flows.
The economic terms and conditions of the Offer, including provisioning and maintenance operations, depend on the requested transmission capacity and the length of the connection and are split into:
The service charges are shown analytically in the price list set forth in the regulated Offer available on the website italian section: "I Nostri Servizi" / “Accesso” / “Flussi di Interconnessione” / “Offerte”.

The Interconnection Flows service is “regulated”, and is therefore subject to approval by AGCom (the Italian Communications Authority). A detailed description of the service is contained in TIM's Reference Offer for “Market 4 (ex 6) - Dedicated Capacity Transmission Services”, available on the website italian section: "I Nostri Servizi" / “Accesso” / “Flussi di Interconnessione” / “Offerte”.
