Who can use the service?
IPG@TE is TIM's “wholesale” service, available throughout Italy, for Operators who wish to offer their end customers an Internet connection, or to connect their own PoPs (Points of Presence) to the Internet, to satisfy the following requirements:
Description of the service
IPG@TE is the reliable solution for providing connectivity to the big internet at high bandwidths from any of the Customer's premises. The service appears as a flexible composition of IP and connectivity services offered by TIM Wholesale: GEA, GIGANET and METROGIGANET, ELIoS. A preliminary Feasibility Study will permit the proposal to the Operator of the most effective solution for reaching one of the 32 access nodes of the TIM IP backbone.
The premises to be connected (for example, one of the Operator's end customers or PoPs) is connected to the TIM network with a level 2 connection, chosen from the range of NWS connectivity services (GEA, GIGANET, Bitstream ATM Kit, etc.) at an Ethernet port of one of the 32 IP nodes of the Telecom Italia backbone.
Following an in-depth study of the best technique that can be used for access to the TIM IP nodes, selected according to the IP band requested by the Customer, the service then appears as the combination of a service with a level of pure connectivity (level 2) and IP (BGP routing services) which guarantees to the customer full internet browsing through the Telecom Italia IP network.
The IPG@te offer assumes that the Customer has its own Autonomous System (AS) and therefore has its own set of addresses, or that it does not have an Autonomous System but rather a set of public IP addresses assigned to it by the RIPE.
If the customer has its own AS, the BGP is enabled between the Customer's Router and the TIM Router set up at the termination of the BGP session.
If the customer does not have its own AS, but it has however been assigned a set of public IP addresses, it can request the announcement of this set (LIR) through TIM’s AS (AS 3269).
Finally, if the customer does not have its own AS and has not been assigned public IP addresses, it can request a number of IP addresses, with the limit set at 4, belonging to TIM's Autonomous System and consistent with TIM’s current routing policies. The customer may request a further 8 IP addresses for a fee. The 8 supplementary IP addresses are not consecutive. In this second case the IP configuration between the Customer's Router and the TIM Router shall occur through static routing. Further requests for additional IP addresses will be evaluated by TIM.
It is possible to activate the CleanPipe option, which enables the connection protection from DDOS attacks.
IP G@te allows the configuration of bandwidths from 10Mbps to 10Gbps.
To activate the IPG@TE service the customer must have signed up to a connectivity service chosen from among GEA, Giganet or Colocation between the end user's premises or the Operator's POP and the TIM network.
