IPLook ai Nap
Who can use the service?
From the Wholesale point of view, the reference market is made up of: Telco Operators, Internet Service Providers (ISP), Web agencies, Application Service Providers (ASP), Content Providers, Mobile Content Providers.
In particular, “typical” customers offer their customers IP services such as hosting, Data center voip, xdsl services, Cloud, and therefore hosts e-commerce, home banking and online newspaper sites, where having broad visibility (TIM customer base) with a set of qualitative parameters is an enabling factor for the business.
Description of the service
IPLOOK at NAPs is an IP Bandwith service that can be delivered at the national Neutral Access Point (MIX and NAMEX) where a higher concentration of ISPs can be detected. The service has the same characteristics as the IPLOOK service in terms of qualitative parameters (Round trip delay, Packet Loss) and assurance SLAs, with the advantage for the ISP of being able to reuse pre-existing connectivities.
It is an entry level service to introduce the concept of QoS (Quality of the service) and consists in establishing an eBGP (external Border Gateway Protocol) session between the TIM network and the customer network.
Transit to other OLOs and to the Big Internet is excluded from the offer.
IPLOOK Customers is ensured the visibility of the AS3269 aggregates, the AS of the Customers and/or of the internal networks (Data Centers, TIN, TIM, …) and lastly the Customers with public ASs.
The IPLOOK at NAPs service satisfies the need to minimise latency in exchange of data, by creating a direct access between the network of an OLO/ISP and the TIM network.
TIM is co-located at the national NAPs (Neutral Access Points) (MIX in Milan and NAMEX in Rome) to deliver the service in the aggregation points of the major OLOs and ISPs.
The offer comprises two components:
The TIM termination equipment is in the “Red wing" of the MIX and at the NAMEX. Since these are third parties, the connection between the customer's router and the TIM equipment must be executed by the customer involving the carrier where it is co-located.
Visibility of the TIM customer base can also be achieved via the big internet but direct access, a characteristic typical of IPLOOK, minimises the number of hops in order to have better performances in terms of service availability, latency and packet loss between the customer's network and that of TIM.
The default service profile is a balanced one (outgoing bandwidth of equal dimension to the incoming bandwidth).
If requested, the service can be profiled in unbalanced mode, advisable if Web-oriented type services need to be supported, in which the use of bandwidth in access is typically unbalanced in the upstream direction (in transmission from the customer's premises towards the network). With this type of customisation, the bandwidth configured for transmission is greater than that for reception. This solution is the one that performs best when there is the need to transmit web page contents optimising the cost/benefit ratio. Requests for profiles other than the default on must be appraised during the feasibility study.
A Wholesale customer that host numerous websites and is co-located at the MIX has solved the need to increase its visibility with access to the TIM customer base, by purchasing an IPLOOK at NAPs service without therefore having to reach a TIM PoP and maintaining the relations with other operators on the public LAN of the MIX.
Therefore, the customer who is in the following conditions:
buying IPLOOK to NAP, gets benefits in terms of improving its services performance and network optimization.
